MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A Good Samaritan likely saved a man’s live Tuesday morning after his vehicle went into a holding pond near Lonsdale, according to the Rice County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities responded at about 6:15 a.m. to a personal injury crash near the intersection of Millersburg Boulevard and Independence Avenue. A vehicle had gone off the road and into a holding pond.

Authorities say a motorist passing by stopped and saw the lone male occupant, a 67-year-old Lonsdale man, in the car fully submerged in the pond. The Good Samaritan was able to break the back window of the vehicle and pull him out of the car. The driver was taken to Northfield Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Rice County Sheriff’s Office says charges in the crash are possible pending toxicology results. Authorities say it is unknown if the driver, identified as Larry Stavos, was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Rice County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Lonsdale Fire and Rescue and Northfield Ambulance.
